Busch lost two rounds of appeals for reinstatement before the season-opening Daytona 500 and has missed the first two races of the season. Regan Smith has replaced him in the No. 41 Chevrolet.

NASCAR fan Rhonda Haffly, of North Augusta, Ga., tries to stay dry as she waits for the Sprint Cup series auto race to begin at Atlanta Motor Speedway Sunday, March 1, 2015, in Hampton, Ga. (AP Photo/ John Amis )One by one, Jimmie Johnson picked off all the drivers ahead of him. The six-time NASCAR Sprint Cup is already taking aim at No. 7. With a performance that all but locked up his spot in the championship Chase, Johnson didn't even wait for the calendar to flip to spring to show that he'll be awfully tough to beat. After starting near the back of the field because he didn't get a chance to qualify, Johnson pulled away after the final restart with 13 laps remaining to win Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

(AP Photo/John Amis)Jeff Gordon admired his latest retirement gift - a miniature race car for his two young children - and thanked the folks at Atlanta Motor Speedway for not going with the obvious choice. ''I really appreciate it not being a rocking chair,'' Gordon quipped. On Sunday, Gordon will relish one final spin around the track that's meant so much to his brilliant career. Atlanta was the place where Gordon, a few months shy of his 21st birthday, picked up his first NASCAR victory in what was then known as the Busch Grand National Series, beating some of the biggest names in the sport in 1992.

Stolen No. 44 NASCAR race car found in suburban Atlanta (The Associated Press)

NASCAR driver Travis Kvapil uses a cell phone in the garage at Atlanta Motor Speedway Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, in Hampton, Ga. Kvapil's NASCAR Sprint Cup car was stolen early Friday, forcing him to withdraw from a race this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. (AP Photo/John Amis)The No. 44 race car returned to its NASCAR shop in North Carolina on Saturday after it was recovered along a remote road in suburban Atlanta, apparently abandoned by the thieves who stole it from a hotel parking lot. While the discovery didn't occur in nearly enough time for Team XTREME to compete in this weekend's race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, it was a huge boost for the small-budget operation in its bid to make the next event at Las Vegas. ''There was no damage whatsoever,'' team owner John Cohen told The Associated Press. A motorist spotted the No. 44 machine along a darkened road and quickly realized it must be the stolen race car.
