Jimmie Johnson pulls away for another Atlanta Sprint Cup win (The Associated Press)

Jimmie Johnson (48) drives through Turn 4 during the NASCAR Sprint Cup series auto race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Sunday, March 1, 2015, in Hampton, Ga. (AP Photo/John Bazemore)Yet Jimmie Johnson has all but wrapped up a shot at his record-tying seventh NASCAR Sprint Cup title. Quickly establishing he's one of the drivers to beat - boy, does that sound familiar - Johnson pulled away after the final restart with 13 laps remaining to win Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway. By the end, the No. 48 Chevrolet left no doubt it was the fastest car on the track, cruising across the finish line a comfortable 1.803 seconds ahead of one of the race favorites, defending Cup champion Kevin Harvick. It was the 71st victory of his career, and his fourth at the 1.54-mile Atlanta track.

Matt Crafton (88) and Erik Jones (4) battle for position during NASCAR Trucks series auto race at Atlanta Motor Speedway Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, in Hampton, Ga. (AP Photo/John Amis)Matt Crafton romped to an easy win in the NASCAR Truck Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday. Erik Jones led 37 laps but faded to seventh, the last truck on the lead lap. Crafton, who started 15th in his Toyota, picked up his sixth career win and first in Atlanta, his favorite track. The 39-year-old was coming off an eighth-place finish in the season opener, where he also filled in for injured Kyle Busch in the Daytona 500.

Jeff Gordon takes a final spin at track that meant so much (The Associated Press)

Driver Joey Lagano climbs into his car for the start of the NASCAR Xfinity series auto race Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, in Hampton, Ga. (AP Photo/John Amis)Jeff Gordon admired his latest retirement gift - a miniature race car for his two young children - and thanked the folks at Atlanta Motor Speedway for not going with the obvious choice. ''I really appreciate it not being a rocking chair,'' Gordon quipped. On Sunday, Gordon will relish one final spin around the track that's meant so much to his brilliant career. Atlanta was the place where Gordon, a few months shy of his 21st birthday, picked up his first NASCAR victory in what was then known as the Busch Grand National Series, beating some of the biggest names in the sport in 1992.

Stolen No. 44 NASCAR race car found in suburban Atlanta (The Associated Press)

NASCAR driver Travis Kvapil uses a cell phone in the garage at Atlanta Motor Speedway Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, in Hampton, Ga. Kvapil's NASCAR Sprint Cup car was stolen early Friday, forcing him to withdraw from a race this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. (AP Photo/John Amis)The No. 44 race car returned to its NASCAR shop in North Carolina on Saturday after it was recovered along a remote road in suburban Atlanta, apparently abandoned by the thieves who stole it from a hotel parking lot. While the discovery didn't occur in nearly enough time for Team XTREME to compete in this weekend's race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, it was a huge boost for the small-budget operation in its bid to make the next event at Las Vegas. ''There was no damage whatsoever,'' team owner John Cohen told The Associated Press. A motorist spotted the No. 44 machine along a darkened road and quickly realized it must be the stolen race car.

Harvick wins Xfinity race at Atlanta for 3rd year in a row (The Associated Press)

Driver Kevin Harvick celebrates after winning the NASCAR Xfinity series auto race at Atlanta Motor Speedway Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, in Hampton, Ga. (AP Photo/John Amis)Kevin Harvick turned in another dominating performance Saturday at Atlanta Motor Speedway, holding off Daytona 500 winner Joey Logano in the Xfinity Series race. Harvick has won the Atlanta race in NASCAR's second-tier series three years in a row and four times overall. ''I'm going to keep running this Xfinity Series race until I win it.'' Good luck beating Harvick, the defending Sprint Cup champion and a 45-time winner in the Xfinity cars. In Atlanta, he's especially tough, having mastered the art of running strong at the bottom of a track that is infamously rough on tires.

Daytona winner Logano takes Atlanta pole; 13 cars shut out (The Associated Press)

NASCAR driver Trevor Bayne signs autographs before practicing for Sunday's NASCAR auto race Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, in Hampton, Ga. (AP Photo/John Amis)Joey Logano is on quite a roll, following up his victory in the Daytona 500 by taking the pole for Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. NASCAR is on the defensive after 13 drivers - including four former champions - didn't even get on the track for qualifying Friday after failing to pass inspection. Four-time Cup winner Jeff Gordon, who is retiring at the end of the season, called the situation ''absolutely embarrassing.'' Logano led the final session of qualifying with a blistering speed of 194.683 mph, taking advantage of temperatures in the 40s as the sun set on the 1.54-mile trioval. He has never been a strong qualifier in Atlanta, but he's on quite a roll after his victory last weekend in the biggest race of the year.

Dude, where's my car: NASCAR machine stolen before race (The Associated Press)

FILE- In this April 6, 2014, file photo, Travis Kvapil walks the track before a rain delayed start for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series auto race at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas. Police say Travis Kvapil's NASCAR Sprint Cup car has been stolen ahead of a race this weekend near Atlanta. Morrow police Detective Sgt. Larry Oglesby says surveillance video shows the truck and trailer being driven out of the parking lot around 5:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2015. (AP Photo/Ralph Lauer, File)When Travis Kvapil got the call Friday, he figured someone on his race team was playing a joke. They're like, 'No, the car is gone.''' The No. 44 NASCAR Sprint Cup car owned by small-budget Team XTREME was stolen from a hotel parking lot near Atlanta Motor Speedway, police said, forcing Kvapil to withdraw from this weekend's race before he even got a chance to qualify. The $250,000 race car was still missing late in the afternoon, and police were hoping the public could assist in the search. The owner of one NASCAR sponsor offered a pit pass to every race the rest of the year to anyone who helped located the high-powered Chevrolet.
