Matt Kenseth ends 51-race drought with win at rainy Bristol (The Associated Press)

Driver Matt Kenseth celebrates in victory lane after winning a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series auto race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sunday, April 19, 2015, in Bristol, Tenn. (AP Photo/Wade Payne)After four rain delays and 11 extra laps, Matt Kenseth finally drove to victory lane. It took him nine hours to get there Sunday at a water-logged Bristol Motor Speedway. Kenseth snapped a 51-race losing streak by holding off Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson on one final restart in NASCAR's determined effort to stage a complete race. Kenseth, a seven-race winner in his 2013 debut season with Joe Gibbs Racing, was winless all last year.

Denny Hamlin pulls out of Bristol race with neck injury (The Associated Press)

Denny Hamlin pulled out of Sunday's race at Bristol Motor Speedway with a neck injury he says occurred before rain halted the event. The event was stopped after 22 laps for rain, and when drivers were told to return to their cars, Hamlin turned his seat over to Erik Jones. He also felt the best move for Joe Gibbs Racing was to allow Jones, one of their development drivers, to get some seat time. read more...

(AP Photo/Wade Payne)Joey Logano led flag-to-flag Saturday to win the Xfinity Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway. Erik Jones started from the pole but was passed by Logano before he completed the first lap. Logano led all 300 laps in cruising to his second Xfinity Series victory of the season. You're just waiting for something to go wrong.'' In three starts in NASCAR's second-tier series, Logano has driven his Ford to two wins and a second-place finish for Team Penske.

Kenseth content in car and not contemplating retirement (The Associated Press)

Driver Matt Kenseth signs an autograph for a fan during practice for a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series auto race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday, April 18, 2015, in Bristol, Tenn. (AP Photo/Wade Payne)Matt Kenseth is just a year younger than Jeff Gordon, who has already said he'll retire at the end of this season. The 43-year-old former champion won't use Gordon's exit as a reason to consider his own future in NASCAR. He's got no plans to get out of the race car anytime soon and hopes his pole-winning run at Bristol Motor Speedway will lead to the end of a 51-race winless streak. I hope I'm fortunate enough to be one of those guys.'' Kenseth, a two-time Daytona 500 winner and the 2003 Cup champion, had a resurgence with his 2013 move to Joe Gibbs Racing.

RCR takes Newman penalties to final appeals officer (The Associated Press)

Driver Kevin Harvick relaxes before practice for Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series auto race at Bristol Motor Speedway, Friday, April 17, 2015, in Bristol, Tenn. (AP Photo/Wade Payne)Richard Childress Racing appealed NASCAR's penalties against Ryan Newman's team to the highest level on Friday, and crew chief Luke Lambert was eligible to return to work at Bristol Motor Speedway. RCR made the move a day after losing its bid to overturn penalties levied against Newman's team for allegedly manipulating tires at a race last month at California. Although a three-person appeals panel reduced some of the sanctions, the six-week suspensions for crew chief Luke Lambert and two other team members were upheld. RCR sent Todd Parrott to Bristol on Friday as interim crew chief for Newman, but the decision to take the case to Final Appeals Officer Bryan Moss means Lambert and the two suspended crew members can work this weekend.

Kenseth will start on the pole Sunday. (AP Photo/Wade Payne)Matt Kenseth will try for his first win since 2013 when he starts from the pole at Bristol Motor Speedway. Kenseth led a strong showing from Joe Gibbs Racing on Friday when he turned a lap at 128.632 mph to grab the top starting spot. Kenseth is winless in 51 races since New Hampshire in September 2013, but came close last month at California until a late debris caution ruined his day. ''The guy who's on the pole always says it's a big deal for Sunday.
