Joe Gibbs' son being treated for 'brain function' issues (The Associated Press)

FILE - In this July 12, 2008, file photo, Joe Gibbs, right, owner of Joe Gibbs Racing, and J.D. Gibbs, team president, talk at a press conference at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill. Joe Gibbs Racing President J.D. Gibbs is undergoing treatment for Joe Gibbs Racing President J.D. Gibbs is undergoing treatment for ''symptoms impacting areas of brain function,'' which likely stem from a head injury suffered earlier in life. JGR did not reveal a specific diagnosis in a statement Wednesday, but said Gibbs is undergoing treatment to manage symptoms that began with ''speech and processing issues.'' The 46-year-old is the oldest son of team owner Joe Gibbs, the Pro Football Hall of Fame who won three Super Bowls with Washington. ''All members of the NASCAR and France family extend our thoughts and prayers to J.D. Gibbs and his loved ones,'' NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France said in a statement. ''We've all watched J.D. grow up within our community, and he always has represented himself, his family, the entire Joe Gibbs Racing organization and NASCAR with the utmost professionalism, enthusiasm and energy.

COLUMN: NASCAR fans are buzzing over debris cautions (The Associated Press)

Kurt Busch waves during driver introductions for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series auto race in Fontana, Calif., Sunday, March 22, 2015. (AP Photo/Alex Gallardo)There's no way to dance around the fact cautions for debris at Auto Club Speedway twice changed the outcome of the race. A race that at first should have been won by Matt Kenseth was derailed by a late debris caution. Then Kurt Busch was twice denied a trip to victory lane by yellow flags. So a day after Brad Keselowski's come-from-nowhere Sunday victory in California, NASCAR was again under attack for questionable officiating that altered the end of the race.

Brad Keselowski holds off Harvick late, wins at Fontana (The Associated Press)

Brad Keselowski celebrates winning the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series auto race in Fontana, Calif., Sunday, March 22, 2015. (AP Photo/Alex Gallardo)While Kevin Harvick chased Kurt Busch down the stretch in a battle of the best cars in the Fontana field, Brad Keselowski was buried in 17th place - until the yellow flags started flying. A caution for debris allowed Keselowski to move up to sixth. When a second flag went up, he took four new tires while Harvick and Busch got only two. Keselowski roared past Busch on the final lap and held off the streaking Harvick to win at Fontana on Sunday, earning his first NASCAR victory of the season in a wild finish.

NASCAR's Brian Vickers out 3 months, but hopes to return (The Associated Press)

Brian Vickers prepares for qualifying for Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series auto race, Friday, March 6, 2015, in Las Vegas. (AP Photo/Isaac Brekken)Brian Vickers will be sidelined for at least three months while the NASCAR driver is taking blood thinners to treat clots in his lungs. Before Brett Moffitt drove his No. 55 Toyota in Sunday's race at Fontana, Vickers said he still hopes to resume his racing career after his latest medical setback. I know I'm going to be on blood thinners for the next three months, and after that, I'm going to do everything I can to get back in a race car.'' Two days after blood clots were discovered in both of his lungs when Vickers alertly responded to pain by getting to a hospital, Vickers came to Auto Club Speedway to support his Michael Waltrip Racing team. Vickers is in only minimal pain, but can't drive while taking blood thinners because his bleeding could be impossible to stop in a serious crash.

Kevin Harvick cruises to Xfinity Series win at Fontana (The Associated Press)

Kevin Harvick gets drenched by his team after winning the NASCAR Xfinity Sprint Cup Series auto race in Fontana, Calif., Saturday, March 21, 2015. (AP Photo/Alex Gallardo)Kevin Harvick apparently isn't satisfied with dominating just one NASCAR race series this year. Harvick earned his second Xfinity Series win of his phenomenal season Saturday, easily holding off Brendan Gaughan at Auto Club Speedway. ''Everything is clicking right now, and you've just got to keep riding the wave.'' Harvick is hanging ten on a tidal wave lately: He has won two Sprint Cup Series races and finished second in the other two heading into Sunday's race. He was 3.317 seconds ahead of Gaughan on Saturday, suggesting the Sprint Cup field should be even more wary of the field's streaking leader.
