Earnhardt: Hendrick has 'great plan' for Elliott (NASCAR.com)

Crew chief Greg Ives may be leaving Chase Elliott's team after this season to move up to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, but Dale Earnhardt Jr. has no concerns about the future of his NASCAR Nationwide Series phenom. "Mr. Hendrick has a great plan for Chase going forward that we all believe in, and those particulars will be filtering out and announced whenever they're ready to be announced. We feel like he's got a great opportunity, not only in (2015) to have a great, successful season with whomever's his crew chief, but also this year with Greg and what they have remaining this year. Ives, who will take over Earnhardt's No. 88 program next year, has won three Nationwide races this season with Elliott, the 18-year-old son of NASCAR Hall of Fame selection Bill Elliott. read more...

Mark Martin tweets he's back with Roush Fenway (NASCAR.com)

Mark Martin announced Thursday via social media that he has returned to Roush Fenway Racing, the team that gave him his first big break in NASCAR's big leagues, as a driver development coach. Martin, who scored all but five of his 40 wins in NASCAR's premier series with car owner Jack Roush, broadcasted the news from his Twitter account. Roush Fenway announced next year's driver lineup Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, with Stenhouse, Bayne and veteran Greg Biffle completing the roster. read more...

Greg Ives to crew chief Earnhardt in 2015 (The Associated Press)

Driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. prepares to practice for the Brickyard 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup series auto race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, Friday, July 25, 2014. (AP Photo/AJ Mast)There was no shortage of candidates to replace Steve Letarte as Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s crew chief The list of applicants was long, but Hendrick Motorsports has always liked to groom its own talent. Greg Ives, who was shipped over to Earnhardt's Nationwide Series team at the end of 2012 to gain his first experience as crew chief, was chosen Wednesday as Letarte's replacement with NASCAR's most popular driver. Letarte will move to an analyst role with NBC Sports and Ives will move from JR Motorsports to crew chief for Earnhardt.

Ives to benefit Earnhardt in more ways than one (NASCAR.com)

Through seven years and five championship runs, Greg Ives was the quiet man atop the No. 48 pit box. It was crew chief Chad Knaus who brought the steel, who could raise the tenor of his voice over the radio, who at times could even put the whip to his driver or pit crew. Then there was Ives, who as lead engineer helped shape the strategy that won all those titles, quiet and calculating and somewhat unknown even to Jimmie Johnson's most ardent fans. read more...

Gustafson: Penalties for No. 11 team 'huge' (NASCAR.com)

Alan Gustafson says he doesn't know much about the penalties handed down Tuesday to the No. 11 team for Joe Gibbs Racing and driver Denny Hamlin, but he does know the severity of the penalties can't be overstated. "I don't know enough about what happened," Gustafson, crew chief for Brickyard 400 winner Jeff Gordon, said during a national teleconference on Wednesday. "As far as the severity of it, yeah, anytime you see those kinds of penalties, it's like, 'Wow, that's huge.' It gets your attention; Hamlin and his team were stripped of 75 driver and owner points, while crew chief Darian Grubb and car chief Wesley Sherrill were suspended for six races, for issues discovered in a post-race inspection of the car following Sunday's Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. read more...
