Column: Busch's victory shows attempt to change as a person (The Associated Press)

Kurt Busch fist-bumps a fan prior to the NASCAR Sprint Cup auto race at Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Va., Sunday, April 26, 2015. (AP Photo/Steve Helber)Kurt Busch's win at Richmond International Raceway would only be considered redemption if anyone had ever questioned his driving ability. NASCAR's 2004 champion has been fighting for four years to rebuild his career, and the Richmond win was proof once again that Busch always seems to find a way to rebound from all those self-inflicted wounds. Patricia Driscoll claimed Busch assaulted her that night, and she ultimately asked that he be charged with a crime. Many of his flaws were exposed over four days of tawdry testimony during NASCAR's offseason.

Busch leads 291 laps in dominating Richmond victory (The Associated Press)

Kurt Busch celebrates after winning the NASCAR Sprint Cup auto race at Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Va., Sunday, April 26, 2015. (AP Photo/Steve Helber)Kurt Busch has spent time this year in a Delaware courtroom, then on NASCAR's sidelines as he served a three-race suspension for an alleged domestic assault on a former girlfriend. Now he has made a trip to Victory Lane, where Busch hoped his victory Sunday at Richmond International Raceway will help him close one of the messiest chapters of his volatile career. ''Standing on the truth the whole time, that gave me the feeling of when I do get back to the car, it's going to be easy to focus, and I think I've shown that,'' said Busch, who still has a no-contact order against him that was issued in February by a Delaware Family Court judge. The Stewart-Haas Racing driver led a career-best 291 of the 400 laps on the 0.75-mile oval, outrunning teammate Kevin Harvick over the final dozen laps to end a 35-race winless streak.

Rain postpones NASCAR race at Richmond until Sunday (The Associated Press)

The crew for Trevor Baine (6) pushes his car to the inspection station as rain falls at Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Va., Saturday, April 25, 2015. The Sprint Cup Series auto race is scheduled for Saturday night ,but the weather reports predict rain all evening. (AP Photo/Steve Helber)Weather disrupted NASCAR's top series for a second consecutive week when Saturday night's Sprint Cup Series race was postponed because of persistent rain at Richmond International Raceway. NASCAR rescheduled the event for Sunday at 1 p.m. It's the first time this season the series has been unable to race because of rain, but completing last Sunday's race at Bristol Motor Speedway was a challenge. Rain caused nearly a 90-minute delay Sunday at Bristol Motor Speedway, and the race was stopped for a four-hour rain delay not long after it finally began. Denny Hamlin, who grew up 20 minutes from the speedway in Chesterfield, will start second in his attempt to complete a nearly perfect weekend.

Hamlin dominates to win NASCAR race at Richmond (The Associated Press)

Denny Hamlin holds the trophy as he celebrates winning the Xfinity series NASCAR auto race at Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Va., Friday, April 24, 2015. (AP Photo/Steve Helber)Denny Hamlin returned from last week's injury-shortened weekend and led almost from start to finish Friday night to win the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Richmond International Raceway. He relinquished the lead for one lap to Brian Scott during a series of green-flag pit stops, and to Elliott Sadler during another green flag stop late in the race, but both times regained the lead on the following lap. You don't get these cars often.'' The victory was Hamlin's 12th in the series and third at Richmond. Following up on Kyle Busch's wire-to-wire victory for Joe Gibbs Racing in the series last September, the JGR teams have led 498 of the last 500 laps run in the series at RIR.
